Tempered Glass

Commercial Tempered Glass Supply & Installation

Tempered glass is the workhorse of commercial glazing. Heat-treated to roughly four times the strength of ordinary annealed glass, it breaks into small, blunt pieces instead of sharp shards, which is why building codes require it in doors, sidelites and many storefront openings. CBE Glass supplies, cuts to order and installs tempered glass for retail, office, healthcare and education projects across Washington DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia.

Where we install tempered glass

  • Storefront lites, entrance doors and sidelites
  • Frameless all-glass doors and partitions
  • Glass railings, guards and windscreens
  • Locker room, shower and fitness center glass
  • Display cases, shelving and countertops
  • Replacement lites for windows located in hazardous zones

Made to exact size, every time

Tempered glass cannot be cut or drilled after it is heat-treated, so precision matters. Our estimators field-measure each opening, note hole and notch locations for hardware, and order glass with the correct thickness, edgework and safety label. The result is glass that fits the first time, with no costly remakes.

Fast replacement of broken tempered glass

When a tempered door or storefront lite breaks, the entire panel falls out of the frame. Our emergency crew secures the opening the same day, then we install a new tempered unit that matches your existing thickness, tint and hardware prep.

Questions about tempered glass

Need a specific answer? Call our estimating team at (202) 492-0676.

Is tempered glass required by code?

Yes, in hazardous locations such as doors, glass next to doors, large panels close to the floor and some railings. We confirm the requirement for each opening.

Can tempered glass be cut on site?

No. All cutting, drilling and edgework is done before tempering, which is why we take precise field measurements.

How thick should tempered glass be for a storefront door?

All-glass doors typically use 1/2" tempered glass, while framed storefront doors usually take 1/4" or a 1" insulated unit.
