Laminated Glass for Safety, Security & Sound Control
Laminated glass bonds two or more layers of glass to a tough plastic interlayer. When it breaks, the fragments stay attached, so the opening remains closed and people stay protected. CBE Glass installs laminated glass in skylights, railings, storefronts, schools and secure facilities throughout the Washington DC area.
Laminated glass applications
- Skylights, canopies and all overhead glazing
- Glass railings and floor-to-ceiling guards
- Forced-entry resistant storefronts
- Schools, daycare centers and public buildings
- Acoustic glazing near highways, rail lines and airports
- UV-blocking glass that protects merchandise and artwork
PVB, SGP and acoustic interlayers
Not all laminated glass is the same. Standard PVB interlayers deliver safety and UV protection, stiffer SGP interlayers carry higher loads for railings and overhead glass, and acoustic interlayers cut transmitted noise. We help you select the right build-up and combine it with tempering or insulated units when performance demands it.
Security without bars
For businesses exposed to smash-and-grab theft, laminated glass slows intruders down while keeping your storefront open and inviting. Combined with security film or ballistic glazing where needed, it is one of the most effective ways to harden a building.

Questions about laminated glass
Need a specific answer? Call our estimating team at (202) 492-0676.
Is laminated glass the same as tempered glass?
No. Tempered glass breaks into small pieces, while laminated glass cracks but stays in one piece held by the interlayer. The two can also be combined.
Why is laminated glass required overhead?
Codes require overhead glazing to retain its fragments if broken, which laminated glass does.
Does laminated glass reduce noise?
Yes. Laminated glass, especially with an acoustic interlayer, noticeably reduces outside noise.
