Low-E and Energy-Efficient Glass for Commercial Buildings
Glass can be the largest source of heat gain and heat loss in a commercial building. Low-emissivity (low-E) coatings and insulated glass units cut that energy loss dramatically while still admitting daylight. CBE Glass supplies and installs high-performance glazing for new construction, renovations and energy retrofits in DC, Maryland and Virginia.
High-performance glazing options
- Double and triple insulated glass units
- Soft-coat and hard-coat low-E coatings
- Argon gas fill and warm-edge spacers
- Solar control coatings for south and west facades
- Thermally broken storefront and curtain wall framing
- Glazing that supports LEED and energy code compliance
Lower utility bills, better comfort
Upgrading to modern low-E insulated glass reduces heating and cooling loads, eliminates cold drafts near windows and keeps sun-facing rooms from overheating. Tenants feel the difference immediately, and owners see it on the utility bill.
Energy retrofits in occupied buildings
Many existing frames can accept new high-performance units without full window replacement. We survey the building, recommend glass that matches your energy and appearance goals, and replace units floor by floor so tenants can stay in place. Fogged units are a sign it is time: see our insulated glass replacement service.

Questions about energy-efficient glass
Need a specific answer? Call our estimating team at (202) 492-0676.
What does low-E glass do?
A microscopically thin metal coating reflects heat while letting visible light through, keeping heat inside in winter and outside in summer.
Can I add low-E to my existing windows?
The coating is applied at the factory, but in most cases we can replace just the glass units in your existing frames.
Does energy-efficient glass look tinted?
Modern low-E coatings are nearly clear. Tinted or reflective options are available if you want more glare control.
