A grocery store entrance has to stand out from the parking lot, invite shoppers in, take a beating every day and save energy. For the new Weis Markets in Waldorf, Maryland, CBE Glass installed the main glazing package.
Project scope
- Curved clerestory curtain wall over the main entry
- Storefront framing and glass at ground level
- Vestibule glazing coordinated with the entrance doors
The challenge: a curved glass façade set high above grade
The clerestory follows a curving roofline well above the entry. Every mullion had to be laid out exactly and anchored to the structure, and each lite was set from lifts while other trades kept working on site.
Working alongside the other trades
A curtain wall has to connect cleanly to the building’s air and water barrier. We sequenced our work with the envelope and roofing crews so openings were ready on schedule and every transition stayed dry.
Outcome
The completed entry gives the store a bright, contemporary glass front that pulls customers inside and floods the sales floor with daylight. View the project photos, read Storefront vs. Curtain Wall, or see our Maryland commercial glass services.
